Tuesday Music Release: Why (We Stand In Need)

Why (We Stand In Need)

This song asks a simple question: “Why?”
Then it offers a quiet but powerful response: “We stand in need… of a miracle.”

If you know me, or if you knew me back in the day, you know this isn’t the first time I’ve brought people together to ask that question and make that statement.

In high school, I pulled together a group of singers and musicians to “save the world” with a song. Later, when I owned a recording studio in Jacksonville, Florida, we brought musicians together to create an album that raised awareness about homelessness. We actually did it twice, the second time bringing together bands from across Florida and other states.

And if you’ve read my books, you know there’s a recurring theme that highlights the very real issue of human trafficking, something many people imagine only happens in movies, but unfortunately is all too real.

This song is a little different.

The question “Why?” can mean whatever you want it to mean. For me, it’s a question about how a relatively small group of people have managed to divide us, and distract us, from the issues that truly matter.

And the line “We stand in need” is delivered the way you’d hear it in a thriving Black church on any given Sunday (or Wednesday night). Not as a slogan, but as a shared acknowledgment of need, hope, and faith..

We stand in need of a miracle, indeed. Enjoy the multitude of instruments, rhythms, and samples that come together to help ask this question in a slightly different way.
