Some songs start with a plan.
Others start with curiosity.
Brown came out of a moment where I was simply testing the limits of my recording environment. I wasn’t trying to make a hit. I wasn’t even sure what direction the song was going. I just wanted to see what would happen if I pushed a little further than usual.
And something cool popped out.
Brown is a fun, slightly crazy, jazz‑sourced fusion track with an unexpected twist, a driving, almost chaotic beat and an African‑inspired vocal section dropped right in the middle. It’s not polished to fit a box. It’s experimental, energetic, and honestly… one of my personal favorites.
At the time, I was also thinking about releasing a new album. This song became a kind of creative spark, proof that sometimes the best ideas show up when you’re not chasing them.
Now, Brown has taken on a second life. It’s going to be the title track for my next podcast, and I can already hear it as both the intro and the exit. It sets the tone perfectly.
Just another thing from the Mind of Jarrod L. Edge.
Why the name Brown?
Alright………..full honesty.
When I first started the song, my working thought was:
“Let’s try to make something that sounds like James Brown.”
That’s not where it ended up, but I really like James Brown, and the name stuck. Sometimes you keep the original label as a reminder of where the journey began.
